LCV Statement on Biden-Harris Administration Community Change Grant Program Launch

Aug 1, 2024

Washington, D.C.– Today, EPA announced the first awardees of $325 million in community change grants across 16 states and the District of Columbia. This money is the first to be rolled out for 21 different projects from a larger pot of $2 billion set aside by the Inflation Reduction Act. In response, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) issued the following statement from Government Affairs Representative for Healthy Communities, Lizzy Duncan:

“We applaud the Biden-Harris administration for starting the Community Change Grants Program, which is the single largest investment in climate and environmental justice in history. These projects will help historically disadvantaged communities across the country suffering from the worst effects of the climate crisis, including extreme heat and increased natural disasters. There is a wide variety of projects that have been funded, including installing wastewater treatment systems in rural areas, performing much-needed weatherization upgrades to help low-income residents improve indoor air quality and reduce their energy bills, retrofitting buildings with energy-efficient HVAC systems, and creating much-needed green spaces in historically disadvantaged neighborhoods. We look forward to continuing to work with the Biden-Harris administration and the Environmental Protection Agency to support communities in building a clean energy future that is equitable for us all.”
