WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, youth leaders and organizers convened to discuss how Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential candidacy has electrified excitement among young voters, including across battleground states and especially on key issues like reproductive freedom and climate justice. They shared thoughts on how the digital organizing landscape is helping energize this critical voting bloc and turn enthusiasm into real political action.
Vice President Harris has been a steadfast champion for reproductive freedom, climate and economic justice, LGBTQIA+ rights, and so many issues that are at stake in this election and that resonate deeply with younger voters. Donald Trump and his extremist Project 2025 agenda do not represent the next generation of Americans, and the choice between the two presidential tickets is crystal clear. Vice President Harris is quickly earning support from some of the country’s most prominent youth groups, and new polling shows Harris’ increasing advantage with younger voters and how this bloc will be a key component of her path to victory.
Jessica Siles, Deputy Press Secretary, Voters of Tomorrow: “Following Vice President Harris’ announcement and President Biden’s endorsement of her, we are seeing young people being more engaged and more enthusiastic.”
“This has already translated into political action, it’s not just memes online… We’re seeing chapters and coalitions form that weren’t there before. We have all of this evidence to show that young voters are getting more involved and this will continue on a deeper level.”
Garrett Readling, Communications Director, Young Democrats of North Carolina: “There’s been a groundswell of energy among young people in North Carolina, especially since Harris has become the presumptive nominee. They see Vice President Harris as the perfect person to meet the challenges ahead of us. Ultimately, her vision of our country is more aligned with young people’s than Donald Trump’s, to say the least. She sees young people as a crucial partner in winning this election… She speaks to the issues young people are facing such as issues around gun violence, abortion rights, student debt, LGBTQ rights and safety, health care… Vice President Harris is giving us something real and genuine to believe in.”
Casey Lowe, Youth Digital Campaigns Manager, League of Conservation Voters: “Young people know the stakes for climate, justice, and for our democracy. The urgency to act has never been greater.”
“Young people are excited and ready to mobilize across the country to elect Vice President Kamala Harris and climate champions up and down the ballot.”
Deja Foxx, Digital Strategist and Content Creator: “When I share content [about Harris], I’ve been monitoring the conversations in the comment section. Overwhelmingly the most used word in the comments is ‘hope’ – young people are telling me they feel hope for the first time in a long time. They want to get to know her beyond the memes… She feels like a real person.”
“This race is historic. But we are already seeing race and gender-based attacks… They are on the lips of our most extreme electeds, they are at the top of our social media feeds, they are at dinner tables across the country, and in the ugliest corners of the internet. We need to not only win an electoral battle, but we need to win the narrative battle, too. Young people have an outsized influence in doing that across social media.”
In stark contrast with Donald Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris will fight for the next generation of voters. A proven leader with the experience to lead our nation, she continues to meet young voters where they are and her unrivaled strength prosecuting the case against Donald Trump on the top voting issue of reproductive freedom on the campaign trail positions her to meet this moment.
