Fighting for urgent climate action requires massive grassroots support. Through our Climate Action program, volunteers lead meaningful change online and on the ground in their local communities.
Fighting for urgent climate action requires massive grassroots support. Through our Climate Action program, volunteers lead meaningful change online and on the ground in their local communities.
Climate Action volunteers advocate for climate action from policymakers by hosting local and online events and rallies, collecting signatures, leading rapid response phone banks and visiting lawmakers’ offices. Volunteers organize at the federal, state and local level including more than 70 high school and college campuses. With 40% of volunteers under age 35, the program is interconnected with the broader youth climate movement.
The Climate Action volunteer program focuses on 1) building and training a base of activists to fight for climate and environmental justice, and 2) developing deep and equitable partnerships with progressive partners, environmental justice leaders, and justice organizations to strengthen and increase representation in our movement.
Our most recent yearlong field program covered over 100 town halls and hosted thousands of visibility events weekly near congressional district offices, which resulted in recognition from members including Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representative Abigail Spanberger (D-VA-07).
As we fight for climate action at the local, state and federal levels, we’re continually innovating and training climate activists in the best ways of connecting with their communities online and on the ground.
Our climate action teams equip community members with the tools to advocate for state and federal progress on climate, clean energy and air, and environmental justice in five states and virtually across the country.
This is what Climate Action looks like! By harnessing the power of people to fight the climate crisis we can make a difference for our communities and planet every day. Are you ready to join us? “We need to be aware of what happens in our institutions that affect our communities; we cannot just sit back and watch our neighborhoods change and do nothing about it [...] LCV has helped us tremendously through brainstorming and helping us as a group get organized and hosting town halls for us. We would not have gotten as far as we have without them.”

“No matter your field of work, background or experience, there is a space for everyone in the movement. The fight for the environment and climate justice is uniquely intersectional. It affects everything and everyone, in ways big or small. For members of my generation, there is always opportunity for meaningful involvement in inexpensive ways [...] Lawmakers love hearing from us, especially college students.”
