Yonathan Cornelio, who is worried about high utility costs for him and his community, is excited about the affordable clean energy plan benefits that will help put money back in Nevadans pockets.  At a press conference with Rewiring America, Yonathan shared his enthusiasm for the affordable clean energy plan and the Rewiring America calculator, a tool for calculating clean energy savings.

Hello, my name is Yonathan Cornelio. I’m a member of Chispa Nevada, a program that organizes Latinos to have a voice in decisions that affect our environment. I’m part of a committee of community members who are worried about the high cost of utility bills and want to find solutions to help lower our bills.

I live in an apartment, and my utility bills have gone up. These are costs I didn’t expect. It makes it hard to budget my finances. I know I’m not the only one experiencing these issues. Like many others in my community, with the cost of living going up, I’m trying to eliminate any unnecessary expenses. But air conditioning is a necessity in Las Vegas, where we are experiencing breaking hot weather.

That’s why I’m excited about this calculator and the federal and state programs that will help us save money over time with electric vehicles, high efficiency appliances, and clean energy. This will benefit our community by lowering monthly expenses. These tax credits and rebates will help us keep money in our pockets. In the future, I’m thinking about buying an electric vehicle, and these incentives will be helpful in me switching my car for something less polluting and less expensive over time.

As a realtor, I also want to help my clients invest in homes with the latest clean and efficient technology. I’ve seen how many homeowners with solar panels can save a lot on their electricity bills. I want other community members, even renters, to have access to these programs that will lower their costs. We need more outreach for Latinos to make people aware of these programs.

I look forward to using the calculator to find out how much money I can save and sharing that information with the community. We all want our families to have a better life. That means access to an affordable cost of living and a healthy environment. Every cent count, and every bit we can save by upgrading our homes and our cars, is money we can put towards our future, thank you.
