Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today the endorsement of Sarah Elfreth for election to the U.S. House of Representatives representing Maryland’s 3rd District.

“From devastating flooding in historic Ellicott City and Annapolis to tornadoes in Anne Arundel County, residents of our district are living with the profoundly damaging consequences of climate change,” said Sarah Elfreth. “In the Maryland Senate, I have worked to make communities more resilient to the impacts of climate change and to improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay. On Capitol Hill, I will fight for climate justice, to speed our transition to clean energy, for a stronger democracy, and to protect the Bay and its watershed.”

Senator Sarah Elfreth is a leading pro-environment voice in the Maryland State Senate with a 100% lifetime score on Maryland LCV’s scorecard. She serves on the tri-state Chesapeake Bay Commission, where she helps coordinate State and federal efforts to clean up the Bay. Elfreth’s impressive record includes sponsoring pro-environment legislation includes passage of the Maryland The Beautiful Act, which set a goal of permanently conserving 40% of Maryland lands by 2040; the Forest Conservation Act which sets new, stronger statewide forest cover and tree canopy goals to move Maryland from a standard of “no forest loss” to actual forest gain; and the Great Maryland Outdoors Act which looks to bolster state park capacity and establish a new state park. Prior to her election to the Maryland Senate, Elfreth worked in government affairs for the National Aquarium in Baltimore. In this role, she worked with the legislature to pass legislation that banned shark finning and toxic microbeads.
